“Renovate Europe” is a energy saving campaign bringing together 31 non-governmental organizations, local authorities, trade unions, various expert groups and the voluntary sector, with the aim of reducing energy emissions by 40% by 2030 and 80% by the year 2050. This will help to change real estate redevelopment and to save 240 billion Euros per year, creating approximately 2 million jobs. To date, our buildings are responsible for 40% of our total energy consumption and 36% of carbon dioxide emissions within the European Union. It has been calculated that, in the residential sector alone, this would create a savings of 61%, and the cost of energy would be reduced by 22% by 2030. Here are nine policy points from the Report:
1. Improving the quality of life;
2. Reducing levels of air pollution and CO2 emissions;
3. Encourage wider prospects of urban regeneration;
4. Improve the prospects of SMEs;
5. Strengthening local and regional authorities’ commitment;
6. Boost economic recovery;
7. Eradicating energy poverty;
8. Enhance energy security;
9. Support the public finances of member states.
